In camp near Sharpsburg, Md. July 21, 1863
Dear Genl.
Sir, permit me if you please, to
send you a few lines concerning the 122nd O.V.I.
in doing so, I feel assured that what you can
do for us; you will cheerfully do, as was your
habit when we was in your command. On the
18th inst. I was in the Army of the Potomic 3rd
Corps. There I found a small detachment of
our regt. commanded by Col. Ball, Lt.
Col. Granger was with it also. They are very
anxious to get with us at this point, but from
some cause cannot. They have no transportation.
Camp & garrison equipage, not one mess pan or
kettle, and requisitions have been made properly
time & time again without receiving any attention
whatever. Such a condition of affairs cannot
be born without complaint longer. Now your
old command to an officer – yes to a man are
going to work energetically – and apply or
petition the proper authorities that be, and
see if we can once more have you restored to
us. We want no other commander than Genl.
Milroy and so far as your old Div. is concerned
this feeling I do know to be unanimous. I write
this to you, at Col. Balls suggestion. We had
