To Mary Milroy From RH Milroy March 4 1863

Winchester, Virginia  Mar. 4th, 1863 

My Dear Mary, 

		Yours of the 24th inst. is recd.  I am surprised  
that you do not get my letters.  I write you almost every week  
I signed that my letters miscarry, as I wish you to have  
a corrected history of events with me & if any are lost the  
thread will be broken.  I sent you $700 by express  
last week, which I hope you will get, I wish you would  
have Cicero examine & see whether Philips can make  
a good title to that land or not.  If he can & will make  
you a good deed for my half, Cicero night try to buy up my  
notes that were given for it.  Times are warlike & frequent  
alarms here, but there are a number of officers’ wives  
here at present & if you was here you might have a tolerable  
pleasant time, but it is very uncertain how long it will  
last, as I have reason to expect an attack.  I wrote  
you in my last why Capt. McDonald did not call. 
Joel Dewey of Delphi is about coming out  
here to engage in business, & you could come with  
him.  I recd. a letter from him today, & will  
answer him & tell him to correspond with you &  
come with you if you conclude to come.  Your rout  
would be to Wheeling either by Indianapolis, Dayton,  
& Columbus & c, or by Toledo, Cleveland, & c.  From  
Wheeling or the Baltimore & Ohio R. R. to Martinsburg  
the nearest point to this place, & when all my suppl- 
ies are halted from, & is 22 miles from this place.
