Your favor of the 18th inst is re-
ceived.
I have handed your letter of res-
ignation to the President with the re-
quest that he would comply with your
wishes and give to them his early at-
tention.
Congratulating you upon the
close of the War, and upon the dis-
tinguished reputation which you have
won notwithstanding the opposition
you have encountered in certain in-
fluential quarters.
