Nashville, Tenn.
Sept. 29th 1865
My Dear Mary.
I have rec’d
yours of the 12th and 25th inst,
the latter enclosing several
other letters. I am very sorry
to hear of yours and the childrens
sickness, but from the great
amt. of ague that I heard of
all over the state of Indiana
I looked for you & the children
to have a turn. I feel that I
ought to be at home to assist
in nursing the children & you
through the sickly season, but
I cannot do so without leting
things stop here in our oil,
business just as its most imp-
ortent crisis, when we are comme-
ncing to boar. After much labor
& wear of patience we have got our
engine & set of tools rigged-out and
started about 40 miles from here in
Wilson County, and I have strong
hopes that we will have oil in a month.
Handwritten; 1 sheet, double folded, 4 sides of writing; white stationery with light blue lines
