My Dear Robert
I rec’d yours of the
1st inst. I had come to the conclus-
ion that you would not get home
as I saw that troops were ordered
to Nashville and that it was
rumored that Lee would leave
Richmond and raid into
Tenn. but I think Sheriden
has now blocked that game.
and I hope our forces will contin-
ue to close in on Lee & Jeff so
close that they will have no
egress but to the lower regions
where they can report in person
to his Satanic Majesty.
My health is still poor so that
I am not able to be up much
