I have the honor
of reporting to you the results of
engagement I had with the enemy
yesterday on Sunday evening. The enemy
came in 3 miles of this place capturing
Lieut. Cord of the 4th Mt. Infantry and
fourteen of his men as soon as the
news reached me I mounted my comd.
and moved out beyond where the picket
was captured it being dark and the
citizens reported to me that there was a
heavy force & they had drove off
some hundred of Mr. Thompsons hogs
supposed that they were to feed a comd.
said to camp one mile beyond. I went
on until I came on their rear and
then I moved back and reported to
Maj. Hamilton Comdg. Post, at day light
yesterday morning the picket was attacked
on the Unionville Pike and drove in.
I had my men in readiness for them
they moved around the north of the town
until they struck the Farfield Road, after
striking the road they left it & moved toward
the Wartrace Road. Soon after they got in
the Wartrace Road I struck them with my
Handwritten; 1 sheet, double folded, 2 sides of writing; white stationery with light blue lines
