To US War Dept From WVa Legislature Feb 17 1864

              Joint Resolution requesting an 
increase of the Military Force within, and 
an Commander for, the Department of 
West Virginia. 


 
                 Resolved by the Legislature of 
West Virginia. 

                  That in view of the exposed con- 
dition of the Military Department within 
which our state is embraced and the appre- 
hended danger of early rebel raids and 
invasions within its limits, the Governor 
respectfully and earnestly request the 
War Department to increase the Military 
force therein; and that if not  in- 
compatible with the interests of 
the public service the 7th Regiment 
West Virginia Volunteer Infantry, be 
permitted, after being filled up and  
organized to remain in this military 
department; and that the Governor 
also request the War Department to 
place Major General Sigel, or Major Gen- 
eral Milroy or some other Major General 
in Command of said Department. 


 
             The above resolution passed the 
Senate of West Virginia, Feby 17, 1864
