Dr. Sir,
I read yours of the
27 enclosing copy of letter from Imboden
and your reply. I think your reply was
well conceived and to the point. I think
it would be giving Imboden too much
consequence to have his letter published
I shall go to Washington in a few days
with a view of organizing an expedition
among the other things to take Imboden
and break up his thieving band. I should
like for you to lead the expedition.
I learned a day or two ago that Gen. Halleck
was going to call you to account for the Lt. George
