Dear General
Pardon me for intruding
another letter upon your time,
but some of Col. McRenyolds
friends here have a ascertained
who “CXVI” is and I understand
have forwarded a copy of the paper
containing one of my articles that
bears a little hard on Halleck
and McRenyolds to Halleck him-
self calling his attention to the
article and the prints made
against him. They threatened direful
things. I don’t know but I have
made pretty freely with his name
and conduct, but would do so again
under like circumstances. Has not
an officer a right to prove the truth
of published statements of a superior by
Handwritten; 1 sheet, double folded, 4 sides of writing; white stationery with light blue lines
