Captain,
In compliance with an order from
Brig. Genl. Elliot, I have the honor to report the
following operations of my Battery on the 13th, 14th,
and 15th days of June 1863, as the Comdg. Officer
of the Battery was taken prisoner and I being
the only officer present,
On the Morning of the 13th inst. Lieut. Randolph
received orders to proceed out the Strasburg
road with one section of the Battery leaving the
remaining two sections of the Battery under my com-
mand at Camp near Winchester Va.
About 10 O’clock the same morning I received
orders from Genl. Elliott to join Lieut. Randolph with
the remainder of the Battery on the Strasburg
Road, after arriving at the Union Mills on the
Strasburg road, Genl. Elliott ordered me to take
command of one section and report to Genl. Ely
18th Com. Vols. on the Front Royal road, after
having reported to Col. Ely and observing that
our pickets had been driven in on the Front
Royal road, and about 2 miles from town Col Ely
ordered me to take position on the right of the
Front Royal road, and about 1 mile from town
