            In obedience to pgf. 2nd of G. O. 
No. 244. A.G.O. Washington City D.C. 
July 28, 1863 to which my attention was 
called by yours of the 27th ult. I report 
that I was assigned from exile to duty in 
this Dept. by extract 29 of special orders 
No. 149 A.G.O. May 6th 1864 by which 
I was directed to report in person to Maj 
Gnl Thomas & C. 


By special field orders No. 141. Ex 7 
Hd. Qrs. Dept. Cumb. May 22nd 1864 
I was ordered to report to Maj. Gnl. 
Rousseau – establish my Hd. Qrs at 
this place & co-operate with him in the 
defense of the N.&C. R.R. between Nashville 
and Bridgeport.  Being planted here by the 
last mentioned order & extract I am here 
still.  Maj. Gnl. Rousseau is planted at the North
