Dear General 


	 
		I expected to write you 
before this time, but we have been 
so busy that I have not been able

 
	I find but one feeling in your 
old command and particularly among 
our boys and that is - give us our 
own old Grey Eagle – General if ever 
your get command of our boys again 
set this down as correct. That every 
officer and man, will stand by you, write 
the last moment. This is not empty 
praise, this is not blarney for any 
effect, but it is the sincere honest truth

 
	On one of our marches, the 
roadside was strewn with men, who 
were dying from Sunstroke- who were 
suffering from disease-one hundred 
ambulances were in the rear and yet 
not one poor soldier had dare get 
in them, some of these same wagons 
were loaded with Sig?? for Headqrs 
I tell you General, the great trouble 
with this army is there is too much liquor
