Dear Sir 


                                        I will give 
you a Short history of the Scout which 
I comdg from this place to the vacinity of 
Madisons Crop Roads 


    the Scout was companies A.B. & F of the 
5th Tenn Cavelry and Lieut Gabriel Johnson Co.  
‘J’ 5th Tenn Cavelry twenty eight in all  I proceeded 
on the Athens Road to Madisons Crop Roads, 25 miles and there 
got information that eighteen of Col Meades guerillas 
had pafsed there that morning going wesst which news 
Excited the Ire of the Boys  they was Eager for a 
fight we Doublenicked it a bout five miles and 
Over took the Scamps and Charged them without 
halting to form a line  they tried to form to figt 
us  but the Boy’s went in with a hoop that made 
the Rebels Quail  Maj, it would have done you 
good to have seen the Boys clime the Brush 
the Result was wwe killed two nights of the 
Brush dead on the Spot and woulded Several 
Others Captured two horses two gunstone revolvers
