HeadQrs. W. J. Forces
Stevenson, Ala
April 27th 1865
General,
In answer to the letter written by
your direction, I have the honor to state that I
requested Maj. Genl. Rousseau to transfer me with
my Command in your district. He said that Brig
Grangers District was as large as yours, that he has
not as many troops, and he could therefore possibly
not take any troops from Genl.. Granger. I also
asked whether Stevenson could not be assigned to
your Command again. I was informed that that
could not be done with out a great deal of
trouble.
General, I must apologize for not
informing you of my mission before. It was my
intention to go to Tullahoma and see you in per-
son, but being off in Nashville for a week,
and upon my return here, being pestered in the
Neighborhood with Guerillas, I could not leave.
