Dear General,
I telegraphed you twice from
Wash, but never heard a line for you
by mail or telegraph while there. supposed
you was ordered off till I returned home.
Reached So Bend at 3 A.M. today &
found letters by the hundreds waiting me.
Am trying however to get off the most important
to you & others to day. Now for my report.
1. After a great deal of labor & two refusals,
I succeeded with the aid of PostMaster Genl. Blair
in getting leave of absence for Col. Moody from
his Regiment to remain with the 9th. I
telegraphed him the fact & to day mail the official
authority to him from Gen. Thomas, Adjt Genl.
2. After two declinations, I coaxed Gen
Ripley to allow you the 300 long range rifles, &
he ordered them sent from Springfield to you
