Your “Circular No. 29“ of 
the 24 ult is recd .In  
compliance  with the order to 
immediately send  
to your office a full list of all 
staff officers, & acting staff officers  
serving with  “them, I have to state 
that the telegraph order of the late 
Leut. in Chief of June 20th 1863 
to place me in arrest 
which was put 
in force June 27th, 1863 directed  
that the members of my staff 
should report elsewhere for duty 
since which time I have been 
staffless & without any cmmand 
Gov. Grant that it may not long 
continue so I have the honor to be
