Senate Chamber
Wheeling, West Virginia
July 28th, 1863
Major General Robert H. Milroy,
Dear Sir:
Meeting with Lieut. Poore one of your staff
officers yesterday evening, who informed me that you
were at Baltimore, I take this opportunity of
dropping you a line. I have not been able to
learn your post office address since the battle at
Winchester. Dear General I feel sorry and
indignant the way you have been treated, by the
pompous official at Washington. But you
can console yourself, that you have the
confidence of all the soldiers who have fought
& toiled with you from time to time. I have
seen a great numbers of them, all of whom
are anxious to be in the service of their country
with you again. You have the confidence &
applause; love and respect of all the good union
men of the nation. I moved a resolution in
the Senate, that you be called to command the
