I respectfully petition & pray your
exallency to grant pardons to the
following named soldiers to wit.
Lorin W. Caldwill a private of E.
9th Ind. Vol. Inf. – George Van
Ankin Corporal of Co. F of same
Regt. Lewis Laddure private of
same Co. & Regt, Wm A.A. Pratt
Corporal of same Co. & Regt, Alfred
Curtis, a private of the same Co. & Regt,
Henry E. Elliott, private of the
same Co. & Regt, & John D. Billings,
a private of the same Co. & Regt., who
were severely tried by a general Court
Martial at Poes Tavern Hamilton Co.
Tenn, in the month of Sept Last, &
as per enclosed copy of General Orders
No. 260 dated Head Quarters Department
of the Cumberland Chattenooga Tenn, Oct
27th 1863. Approving & putting in force
confirming the findings of
same court, were severely sentenced as
(three of them to the disgraceful cruel
penelty of wearing a bell/chain during the
remnant of their time of enlistment)
in that order set forth. These
soldiers were each tried & sentenced
