General 

          I send you (stricken: under guard) Mrs. 
Mary E. Trisdil who you will see by the 
accompanying papers has long been xxx 
in secret U.S. service.  She is wholly reliable 
as was found by Gen. Rousseau & Langen. 
She is a woman of extraordinary energy 
tact & cunning & I think is activated 
by the highest & purest motives.  She has 
just returned from within the rebel lines 
& is possessed of much valuable information 
about their plans & intentions (stricken: has by long practice 
in a high degree) she has by long practice 
proven herself to possess in a high degree 
the requisite abilities for a successful 
spy. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 
I would respectfully suggest that she 
be treated as a prisoner & her true character 
be made known only to yourself & Provost 
Marshal & that she be furnished by you 
with passes on the R.R. &  if you do not need her  services that she  be 
pardoned by your order & returned to me as 
I can make valuable use of her in  
finding out gurillas & reb spies & scouts.
