My Dear Mary,
I recd some days
ago the letter of my friend Berlin of W. VA
which you forwarded after writing in it
yourself and I recd last evening yours
of the 8th inst. I was pained to hear
that you have been suffering so much
with soar eyes. I wrote you from this
place on last Wednesday a week
& sent you by express $ 300.00 which
I hope you have recd. I recd orders
on last Friday week to take Comd.
here in Maj Gen Rosseaus place
of the district of Tennessee. Rosseaus
had orders to go on a cavalry raid
through Alabama, & left here
on Saturday last & will be gone
several weeks. I had to go down
to Tullahoma to arrange matters before
I took Comd. here. I got back from
there & took Comd. here on Monday
