Head-Quarters Disctrict of Tennessee
Nashville, Tenn.,
July 26th 1864
My Dear Mary,
I recd yours of the 14th
inst some days ago, but have been so busy
that I have hardly time to write on anything
but business I also recd yours of the same date about
Ben Cecil and & one from his mother. I went to see
him at once & found him getting better & able
to travel & got him a furlough to go home.
Mr James has not recd his commission yet
but Colfax writes me that his appointment was
confirmed by the Senate on the last day of the session
& that his commission has not been made out on
account of excitement there & press of business but
will come soon. I can get places for Wm
Martin & Mr Conwell here if they come. Enclosed
I send papers that will enable them to get passes at
Louisville for this place. You are a splendid financer
& I will send you all the money I can spare as
fast as I draw it. But why put the money in the Bank
for three months? Why not remit to the holders of the
mortgage & get a receipt from them? This would stop
the 6 percent interest as fast as paid without waiting 3 months.
Handwritten; 1 sheet, 2 sides of writing; white stationery with light blue lines
