Dear Genl.
Don’t you see that
from the motion of things
I cannot dictate to Genl
Thomas, to whose army you
belong what assignment he
shall order of you. I can
transfer you to the Army
of the Ohio, or of the Tennessee
but all of those have too
many General officers that
they are troubled to give
the half commands.
The real trouble is, and
you know it, one army is
not big enough for it’s
generals,. And how I must
be without appropriate
