To the people of Lincoln County
The undersigned has been authorized by
Gen Andrew Johnson, military governor of
Tennessee to recruit & organize a company of
honor guards in Lincoln Country to be
mustered into service for one year.
The Governor has ordered that the
militia of the state shall be enrolled that
they may be officers, & used for the protection of the states
where necessary, in its return to law &
order & the establishment of courts of justice
& other machinery of civil government, that
the presence of (stricken-Government)U.S. Troops from
other states may be dispensed with as soon as
possible & Lincoln County has bad
reputation for disloyalty lawlessness occasioned by
the presence of gurillas, bushwhackers, horsethi-
eves & disloyal persons. Now is the time to
wipe off this stain & to prove your
loyalty to the government of your fathers
that so many of you have professed by
oaths of allegence & amnesty- Come forward
