My Dear Daughter, 
 
 
  
                           I have received your 
letter of the 25th & your Mothers of the 
28th ult.  I am very much pleased to 
see how you are improving in both 
writing and composition & also in 
spelling.  You make but very few 
mistakes in spelling.  I will mention 
one which I have noticed two or 
three times – that is in spelling the 
word us.  You spell it o u s, which 
is wrong.  I tell you this that you 
watch your spelling & try hard to 
make no mistakes.  I am pleased 
to hear that you are reading history 
but your reading will do you no good 
unless you remember it.  A good mem- 
ory can only be acquired by cultivation.
