My Dear Robert
We< have received the
Frank Leslie, and the New York Illustrated News,
which you sent us, and have been very much
interested and amused in looking them
over. I was particularly interested in reading
your opinion of the different officers
and of the hard row you have had to hoe
and hope you will be able to hoe it out,
for I know that I have a truly brave and
noble man for a husband, and think that
so long as truth and justice can prevail
he must succeed. I have not for a moment
despaired of your success, notwithstanding
the deep gloom which has so recently enshroud-
ed you, and from which you are just emerging,
for I felt that truth and justice would
prevail. Col. Crane and family are now
on a visit to our place, he called to see me.
I called on Mrs. Crane at Miss Smith’s, and
invited and invited her with her Husband
and the Miss Smith’s and some of our
neighbors to take supper with us,
we all regretted that you were not with us,
I saw a notice of your visit to the Relay House in the An. Com. Adver. of Baltimore
