HEADQUARTERS
Military Division of West Mississippi
New Orleans, La. December 15th, 1864
Major General R. H. Milroy
Tullahoma, Tenn.
Sir,
I have the honor by
direction of the Major General Commanding, who is
confined to his quarters in consequence of wounds,
to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of
the 17th ultimo, and to say in reply that he has
already a surplus of Major Generals, from the fact
that a large portion of his command have within
the last few months been transferred to the Armies of
the Potomac and the Tennessee, Major Generals Hurlbut,
Steele, and Herron are now awaiting assignment; if it
had been otherwise the General would only have been
too happy to have applied for your transfer to his Div-
ision. The previous letter to which you refer, the
General directs me to say, has never reached him.
I am Sir, very respectfully
your obedient servant
C.T. Christensen
Lt.Col. Asst. Adjutant General
