Gen. M. McClellan sent me word
today that he had ordered the 9th Regiment
and myself to Kentucky. The orders were to depart
today. He is still sick; but sent me word
twice before that my request should not be
forgotten; Col. Colburn, one of his aids, now
tells me that the orders made and that the
General requested him to inform me of it.
I can’t get the boots. The fact that
it had been uncertain whether you were to stay at the
Summit or not prevented it.
