Dear General:
It affords me great
satisfaction to have received your
letters before you left for
Western Virginia. Although I am ese
tremely sorry to lose a whole Brigade
under their most worthy, honest
and brave General, I think necessity and
peculiar circumstances justify this act and
hope, that it will be to your best and that
of your valient men. Take with you
dear General my heartiest wishes and my
highest respects. In the same time I thank you,
your officers and soldiers for the confidence
