Transcript	Washington City, D.C. Dec. 31st 1863 My Dear Mary, I recd. yours of the 22nd inst. enclosing Walter’s drawings of a horse & a buck, a pretty good stagger for little Walter, he may be a young genius. Doubtless the first efforts of Angelo & West were no better. Tell Walter to keep on trying. I hope you have recd. the box of presents I sent you for the children some days ago. I wish to make “the little ones at home” as happy as possible. You said nothing in your letter about receiving the box I sent by express on the 8th inst. containing some nice furs for you & a hat for Ella & I fear it has miscarried.
