Excuse the liberty I take in
addressing you personally & privately. I under-
stand that there is some figuring going on about
the formation of Divisions in your corpse. I
had a military education - served our
campaign in Mexico as Capt. - fought my
way up from Capt. since the
beginning of this war - & as Brigadier hope
you will so arrange matters that I will still have
to report to a Maj. Genl. & not to a Brigadier.
I will come down & see you about this
matter tomorrow if you have no objections.
