I have had
no letter from you for two weeks
or more. It was three months
yesterday since I was placed
in arrest by the brute Halleck.
A hundred pound weight has
been in my breast since the
beginning of my arrest, and not
getting a letter from you as
often as I expect increases
that weight or make it drag
down more heavy. I think that
you and Ella between you might
write as often as once a
week. I think I informed
you that the evidence taken
before the Court of Inquiry had
been referred to President Lincoln
