April 1st Brucy got long without a spasm last night, but had
considerable fever once he fretted and said mumps hurt, Ma
kiss mumps Ma’s kiss is a sovereign balm with him. Mary

My Dear Robert,
I received your letter dated
March 17th and 18th on last Monday evening, and
have designed day by day to answer it, but
have been very busy attending to our out of
door matter we have had some pleasant
weather, which makes me feel like having
our yard and garden work done. I have
had Ben out trimming my Arbor and have plant
ed 13 nice large grape vines, the vines on our
Garden Arbor were entirely too thick so I conclude
ed to thin them out, and plant them else
where. We planted 6 to run on an arbor in
the yard, and Conwell is making the
arbor for them. Now if I tell you what
else we have done, I wonder if you
will be pleased, well that hickory tree which you
admired north of the porch was in the way
of the arbor, so we cut it down, now my
dear, I regretted very much the necessity of

Ben says the mumps pined him badly all night.
