recd. & thankfully appreciated. But unfortunately
I hapened to owe East & Hatcher of Lafayette
that amt. for groceries & and had to send the
draft to them which left me “straped”.
Enclosed I send you two letters of introduc-
tion as you requested. Henry Weston of N.Y.
resided in Rensselaer many years ago &
is a brotherinlaw of J. C. Van Rensselaer &
you will find him a most worthy & amiable
gentleman.
He is the principal manager
the Washington Insurance Co. on Broadway,
the No. of which I have forgotten, but it is
below the Astor House some distance, on the
left hand side as you go down towards the
Battery. You can easily find the “Washington
Ins. Co. by inquiry.
I also send you a few
Lines to my friend Col. Battersby at the Custom
House in N.Y. He was with me in service for
