My Dear Mary
I arrived here on
yesterday at 1 oclock having
left Cheat Mountain with my
Staff at 10 oclock. The
road was splendid & the
day fine & we road through
with a Squad of Cavalry in 3
hours. I had started two
Regts. the 2nd Va. & 32nd O.V.
from Cheat Summit the
day before & I got here a
few minutes after the 1st
Regt. arrived here. I was
greatly surprised at the great
extent & immense strength of
the reble fortifications &
winter quarters here. the greater
part of these works have been
