Head Quarters Cheat Mtn Division
Beverly Va.
Nov. 7th 1862
My Dear Mary,
I believe I last wrote
you from Point Pleasant – since then
I have recd. sevoral letters from you. Your
last of the 27th & 28th Ult. was recd. yesterday
Yours of Sept 24th enclosing a little
letter from Ella, & also one from Va;, written
for him by Ella, was only recd. a few days
ago. it having gone on to Washington City & returned.
It pleases me very much to have my children
thus try to write to me. Val. says he wants a saddle
& a pair of skates. If you think it proper you
can get Wilson to make a saddle for him &
Walter & also get him a pair of skates. Make
home as happy as possible for our dear little
fellows by the gratification of all their reasonable
wants. Let the guilded years of lifes morning &
& youth be happy for the years of maturity will
bring corroding care & stern realities that will
make happiness a stranger.- I arrived at Clark=
sburg on the 17th Ult. & was busy there organizing my
forces until the 23rd ult. when I moved up to
Buckhanon 28. miles – where I remained until the 1st
Inst, when I came on up here – 30 miles from Buckhannon.
