Head Quarters Cheat Mtn. Division
New Creek Va. Dec. 10th /62
My Dear Mary,
I recd. yours of the 27th &
28th Ult. some days ago. I also, before
that recd. yours of the 6th & 18th Ult. &
I don’t recollect whether I have written
or acknowledged the rest of your two last
named letters or not. I am very much pressed
for time & cannot write much now. As to
their profanity you referred to, all I have got to
say is that I am not a profane swearer,
but I do get so mad at traitors occasionally
that I cannot find words strong enough to express
my indignation without using some pretty strong
expletives. I never intend swearing & always
mean right, & have faith that I am so unders-
tood above, & that it will all come out right
& that you & I will make the same port
in the end. I have at last got marching
orders or rather permission to move, have
sent off one of my Brigades & will start
& go with the others tomorrow morning
Handwritten; 3 pages, double folded on white stationery, light blue lines
