My Dear Robert
I started up
to the P. Office through mud
and rain with the dark man-
tle of night around me.
but felt myself well paid for
my lonely effort to get some
news from you, when I received
your letter of the 28th and picture.
the picture is so natural excepting
the hair on your head. it is so much
whiter than than when I last saw
you that I could not help kissing
it. Ella was not very well today
and lay on the lounge this evening
waiting for me to get the news
for she is never willing to go to bed
until I get the news and read
them to her. in the meantime
