Huttonsville W. Va.
Feb. 25th, 1862
My Dear Mary,
I am still here,
completely weather bound & mind
bound. It has rained or snowed
almost every day since about the 5th of
January, & the weather has been
so constantly inclement that I
have been unable to send out any
expeditions against the rebels, &
the waters have been so high most
of the time that my scouts could
with difficulty cross the streams
to watch the rebel camp. They were
still there three days ago but have
been considerably thinned out by sickness
desertion & expiration of service &
from the news that they are receiving
I fear that they will all be gone before
I can attend another ball with them.
