My Dear Robert,
I have just received yours
of Aug 15th & 16th containing six hundred,
I also received your very interesting letter of
Aug 2ond, it is nearly one year since we last saw
you, and I feel truly thankful that you have
been spared through so many dangers seen
and unseen, but I fairly tremble while I
write, for the result of the battle now pending
the most bloody, and I hope the decisive battles
of the war, for I know that you will be in the
front of dangers, if I could see you now, you
doubtless would look somewhat strange to
me, as you have grown grey so rapidly, ,but
from what I have been told you are not
the only Officer whose head has grown
grey rapidly, in this contest which taxes
the mental and physical so severely.
We have had considerable stir and excitement
among the people here during the last three
weeks, whilst getting up and sending off our
Handwritten; 8 pages, double folded, pencil on white stationery with light blue lines
