Corydon Feb 11- 1864
My very dear friend and brother in Christ your welcome Letter of the 8th just came safe to hand yesterday I was truly sorry to here of the Loss of your Little Babe But O my Brother Rember that your Loss is its eter-nal gain Be thankful that the rest of you are all well, It has Been and still is very sickly here and there has Been many deaths But I think the disease is abating some and the Late Cases are not so fatal as the first they yield more Ready to medicine my Little grand daughter was one among the first, tell Paulina she is still alive and they think she is better But she is very Low and I think her case is yet doubtful,... as for my self My health is good withe execption of bad colds
We came very near having a Revival of Religion here But in the midst of it our pre-acher took sick and thare was so much sickness in town to atend two that we could not do the sick Justice, and attend Church Boath so we discontinued our Meeting our preacher is up again his case was one among the Latter cases and I had another grandaughter taken on tuesday Last she is up this morning and a Bout
We had a great War meeting here yesterday and a Beautiful and impressive addres delivered to the audiance By General Wilder on the imp-ortance of volunteering in prefference to the draft and I think it had a good affect
I have But Little to do But visit the sick and think on my near approach to the grave which cant Be Long at farthest and I pray God that it may Be for the Better and not for the worse
