Fredericksburg Ind
Feburary 9th 1862
Dear Uncle,
It has been some time since we have heard from you either by letter or otherwise in fact not since Hett & Ella were up to Martinsburg, Consequently I seat myself this morning to drop a line to you and hope to hear from you soon We are all well at present, and hope you are enjoying the same. You will be surprised no doubt to see that my letter is dated at Fredericksburg. I came here one week ago, to put up some collars for Father and will remain here some five or six weeks, but will not move here, It has been about three months since Father mooved to this Town he carried on the shoe & boot businefs here until two or three weeks ago when he sold out his shoe shop to a couple of hands he had at work for him and he has now gone to making collars I don't think he is very well Satis-fied here, but better probably than he was in Martinsburg, Morals in this Town are very bad, a goodeal worse than in Martinsburg in fact for a small Town it is hard to beat either for drinking Gambling or Swearing and all other vices
