In the Phillippians [Philippines]
June 28, 1945
Dear Frank & Dorthy.
Been moving a little again, then I arrived here, your letter over among many waiting, I'm trying to get them all answered as quick as possible. The roll of paper you sent also arrived, thanks a lot.
At last I am allowed to tell a little about where I been. From Hawaii I went to Gaudual Cannal [Guadalcanal], then flew to New Cal [New Caledonia], stoping in the New Heberdis [Hebrides] islands on the way. Am now up in the Phillippeans.
This isn't too bad a place, hot as that well know place. Even at that it cools down at nite, until a blanket feels good. Youve heard about how much it rains in tropical country, well this is that place. We are right on the ocean, our tent is about 100 yds from the water. With all the rains it still doen't get muddy as its sand ever where. Lots of coconuts & bananas & other tropical fruits.
The Phillippeans are thick as hair on a dogs back. All over the place
