Transcription	Chestnut Hill Hospital Philadelphia Pa Sept 16 1863 Dear Mother and Sister I will try and write you a few lines to day to let you know how I am getting along it has been some time since I have rote to and I expect that you would like to hear from me on once more my eyes are some better than they have been i have been shut up in a dark room for four weeks but i am out at this time i cannot se to write much at this time but hope that my eyes will get so i can even write more the next time this is all that my little woman will let me write at this time write soon M. M. Nichols
