The election at Clear Creek precinct was very quiet, so much so, that some mistook it for a religious meeting. Newton Cox in particular, when lie saw the quietness that prevailed, returned home and got the old family Bible, and came back to the polls, but the religious part of the services were over when Newton returned. The doxolegv was sung and that part of the services were closed. A Communicant. STUNG In the Race for Trustee of this Township. In the race for trustee of this township between Ralph Carter and Frank Sherlock, Mr. Sherlock won by a majority of 110 out of 418 votes. In making this race, I went on the practical and prog-essive theory, that the people generally would get mere of a benefit out of the salary, while at the same time I would have filled the duties of the office as well and as honestly as any man. This paper, which I and my family have sacrificed to put before the public, is in fact a benefit to the entire community and is appreciated by a number of people, t have managed and tried to keep up a telephone service for the public on such low rates, that it has not been on a decent paying basis. No other man can or will float the system and maintain the service in as good condition as it now is, under the rates now in effect, and for my part I want points of of view, I supposed the people would consider it in the light I looked at it, with honest intentions and I sincerely believe was the general feeling until some that I considered my best friends took up arms against me at the last moment. I had, and still have friends that were friends, who stood by me and made great efforts in my behalf, they surely have my heartfelt thanks The ones that took up arms against me to defeat me, I sincerely hope their cup of joy will overflow and their conscience will be rewarded in placing me in humility. sounder the circumstance the News will r st for a week or two, until the management can re-adjust itself and should it cease publication, those that have paid subscriptions, will have their money returned to them. I have made a great effort to be progressive and be of general benefit to Smithville and community, but it seems that the majority does not appreciate it so I must now look to my own interests and take up where I left off and mal e a new start. I do not intend to lay down and die as long fsl am physically able to be on my feet and intend to still be among you and struggle for existence. My intentions have always been to do the right thing, and I am not ashamed to C' mpare my record with anyone. Only one of us could have been elected and they say everything is for the best, I herewith offer my congratulations to the victor.
