English Sparrows Causes BroKen arm As Mrs. Peter Leckard and Miss Minnie Lucas were going to Bloomington to buy Christmas goods, lasi week, the horse became frightened in passing the Mathers quarry and' turned the buggy over, breaking the bone in Miss Lucas' right arm. Mrs. Deckard luckily escaped injury. KIRKSVILLE To Have A Direct Connection With The Local Exchange An agreement Mas been entered into between the Monroe Co. Tel. Co", and the Kirksville Telepone Co., by which they are to run a trunk line between their exchanges at Kirksville arid Smith-ville. Upon the completion of this line it will be possible to get satisfactory conversations with all the Country west 'of this place. Heretofore all connections with that part of the County had to be made through Bloomington and the service was not so good. The home Coj. is making every effort to give its subscribers better telephone s e r v i ee which by experience has taught that the people would rather pay more and get something than to pay about 1-2 price and not get more than 1-2 service. George Pittman, who is attending higk school in Bloomington. is spending the vacation with his Parents Mr. and Mrs. Milt Pittman. NO BOOZE for Harrodsburg A majority remonstrance (250 names out of 418) has been signed by the voters of this township against Samuel McLaughlin, who made application to retail intoxicating liquors in Harrodsburg. ~Mass-meet-ings are being held in that burg wiTh the intention of completely ridding that place of any sale of the article whatever. Since the dissa-pearance of John Bell, Harrodsburg has taken. on quite a calm and if the temperance people are successful, as it looks like they are going to be, even the rustle of a leaf will create quite a sensation. Although it is rather late in the season to fish—according to Andy Stull and "Peg" Taylor, "Uncle Dan" Trisler had pretty good luck Xmas and had a fine looking "Fish'' on the string, The probabilities are that ''Uncle Dan" will be caught breaking the Sabbath '' Fishing'' quite regular in the future. Vito Solomita, Italian whose residence was raided on west 6th street, in Bloom -iugton, Electiou day for conducting a 'blind tiger' was cleared in Esq Little,s court and the "booze" about 60 gallons of it,was returned to him by Sherriff Ratliff. To pour out so much good booze was too trying on their nerves, so they decided to give it back to him. Ruth Carter, of Bedford spent Xmas day with Mrs. Chas Litz-. The christmas entertainment at bo*h Churches wrere well attended and the orograms were about the usual makeup with a Sant Claus some speeches and some handkerchiefs. $21.40 was taken in at the M.E. Church and $22.80 at *the Christain Church. Ben Chambers, who has been workiug on a farm near Lincoln Nebraska,for the past three years, is spending the holidays with his Sister Mrs.Chas Litz. Earl Chambers, who is completing his 4ih. year in Purdue University at La-Fayttte spent Xmas with his sister Mrs. Chas Litz. A maiden fair, with sun-kissed hair, came tripping down the street, her face serene, her age 16—gee whiz,but she was sweet. On the sidewalk slick, she came down quick, with a jolt that shook her curls, but the words she used, must be excused—for she's one of our nicest girls.
