              THE DALE NEWS   VOL. 1  FRIDAY, MAY 13, 1938  NO. 18  Joseph Hilderbrant Buried Tuesday  On Sunday morning, May 8, 1938, the death angel entered this community and taken from this life Joseph Hilderbrant.  He was the son of William and Mary Lanham Hilderbrant, born Oct. 22, 1854. He was 83 years, 6 mos. and 16 days old at the time of his death.  On Dec. 27, 1888, he was united in marriage to Sarah Cooper. One daughter, Ocea May who died at the age of three years, was born to this union. His wife died on August 14, 1907. On January 1, 1909, he was again united in marriage to Margaret Varner of Buffaloville.  In January, 1894, he was converted and joined the Dale M. E. Church.  Surviving are his wife, two step-children, Mrs. Virginia Ammons of Akron, Ohio and Shirley Varner of Dale; two brothers. George of Dale and Cbarles of Hatfield; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Stilwell of Halls, Tenn., and Mrs. Marsilla McKinney of St. Louis Mo. and several half-brothers and balf-sisters of Evansville and many nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends.  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home with burial in the Dale cemetery. Rev. W. A. Skelton was the officiating clergyman. O'er present griefs we would not fret, Each sorrow we would soon forget, For many joys are waiting yet  For you and me.  Charles E. Riggles, 78, died at 3 o'clock, Wednesday morning at his home, one and one-half miles north of Lamar, following a short illness. He is survived by his wife, four sons, Claud, Ruel and Hatsel of Lamar and Jesse Riggles of Dos Palso, Calif., three daughters, Miss Bessie Riggles of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Linnie Connor of Lamar and Mrs. Dessie Connor of Dos Palos, Calif., two sisters, four half-brothers and two half-sisters. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Conner's Chapel church with burial in the church cemetery.  Rev. and Mrs. M. W. Roberson and children, Ruth and Junior visited their daughter, Mrs. Paul Patmore and family, Wednesday. Junior remained for a longer visit.  Church News  METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH  REV. W. A. Church met last Tuesday evening and organised a Christian Endeavor Society. They will have their regular meeting times on each Friday evening at 7:30.  THIRD QUARTERLY CONFERENCE The third quarterly conference will be held in the Dale U. B. Church Monday evening, May 10, at 7:30 p. m. at which time Dr. A. D. Boonville Press Club Picnic Set For July 10   The Boonville Press Club has set the date for its annual patriotic picnic for Sunday, July 10, at the Nancy Hanks Lincoln Park at Lincoln City. President Roosevelt has been invited to speak at the grave of Nancy Hanks. Other invitations have been sent to U. S. Senator Alban Barkley of Kentucky, Governor M. Clifford Townsend of Ind., and Governor Henry Horner of Ill. The committee on arrangements is: Wm. B. Carleton, chairman; Philip Lutz, Jr., Hatfield and Charles H. Johnson.  County Chairmen Elected  The county chairmen and vice chairmen that have been elected by the county central committee are:  DEMOCRATS  Vernon J. Ferguson, Chairman  Mrs. Mina Cook, Vice Chairman  REPUBLICANS  George Thurman, Chairmen  Mrs. Tina Miller, Vice Chairman  The sixteenth convention of the South Central Indiana Women's Union of the Evangelical and Reformed church met Tuesday at St. John's Church at Lamar. The convention theme was, "Serve the Lord With Gladness." Mrs. Magdalena Mernitz, past president of the Women's union, spoke in the morning session on, "Finding Ourselves in Service." In the afternoon, she spoke on, "Tools for Efficient Service." Mrs. Orion Peters of Huntingburg has been the president the past year.
