              THE DALE NEWS VOL. I  FRIDAY, JUNE 10, 1938 NO 22  William Wright Buried Thursday Born in Bardstown, Kentucky, on February 17, 1865, William A. Wright died at the home of his son in Dale, Indiana, on June 7, 1938. Most of his life was spent in Dale, Indiana. On December 20, 1892, Mr. Wright was married to Clara M. Wood and to this union was born two children, Ollie M. Wright who died in 1894 and William Taylor Wright who with his wife Hazel survives. The wife and mother died on February 21, 1899. Mr. Wright was an active worker in the Dale Methodist Episcopal Church, having become a member in 1891. For a number of years he served as one of the trustees of this church. Mr. Wright's entire life was characterised by kindness, forbearance, patience and uprightness. The last years of his life were spent entirely in ministering to others and his faithful services won for him the admiration, respect and esteem of all those who knew him. Having lived in the same community more than one-half a century, he found abundant opportunity to make friends and the fact that all that knew him were his friends, is abundant indication of the manner in which he improved the opportunity. The community has lost an excellent citizen, the Church a loyal supporter and the family one, whose kind ministrations will forever be remembered.  Funeral services were held in the Dale M. E. Church with burial in the Dale Cemetery. Rev. W. A. Skelton was the officiating Clergyman.   Engagement Announced  The announcement of the engagement of Donald J. Schaaf of Evansville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schaaf of Dale, to Miss Meryam Johnson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Johnson, of Sandborn was made recently. The wedding will take place during the summer.  Miss Johnson is it graduate of DePauw university with her master's degree from Colombia. She is instrumental instructor in the Evansville public school department. Donald graduated from Evansville College, received his master's degree from Indiana university and has been working toward his doctor's degree at Northwestern university. He is a teacher of Baker school at Evansville.   The approaching marriage of Walter Billings of Cincinnati, Ohio to Miss Helen Bumm of Dale, was announced in St. Joseph's Church Sunday. The Southern Indiana Association of Women, which held the 1938 meeting, Thursday, June 2, in Vincennes, will hold its 1939 meeting at Lincoln City, in the Nancy Hanks Lincoln Park, the first week in June. Preaching following Sunday School   Dale lost one of its physicans this week, when Dr. and Mrs. Claude Lomax, moved to Indianapolis. Dr. Lomax felt Dale was too small for so many doctors and felt the opportunites were greater in a larger city. They will spend two months in Michigan at Clear Water Lake on a vacation before taking up the practice of medicine again. We regret losing Dr. and Mrs. Lomax but wish them the best of success in their new field.   Dist. Epworth League Conv. In Progress  The Evansville district Epworth League convention, being held at the Santa Claus Campground, is well in progress. It started at 2 o'clock this afternoon (Friday) and will continue through tomorrow (Saturday). The theme of the entire program is: "Efficient Christian Service." Rev. A. W. Jarboe is the pastor host.  The afternoon session opened with Rev. Newman Jeffrey, pastor of Evansville Simpson M. E. Church, speaking on "Christian Objectives in Young People's Work." Following this will be the election of new officers.  A picnic supper was held at the lake, followed by a campfire service conducted by Dr. S. L. Martin, supt. of the Seymour district.  Saturday morning, at 6:30, Dr. W. T. Jones, district supt. of Evansville district, will administer communion and install new officers. The morning session will open at 8:40 o'clock following breakfast. Those conducting classes in departmental work will include Rev. Richard Denbo, Old M. E. church, the convention president; Miss Mary Jane Yokel, Old North; Miss Helen Schroeder, Central M. E.; Miss Mary Flo Seigel, assistant recreational director of the city and a member of Trinity M. E. church; Emory Fulling, Princeton; Margaret Birmingham, Princeton; Charles Tyler, Boonville; Dr. Jones and Dr. John G. Benson, the latter superintendent of Indiana Methodist hospitals, Indianapolis.   After luncheon Saturday, Dr. Frank Greer, Oakland City, will present the Rivervale program. A panel discussion on "Christian standards of Recreation" will have as participants Margaret Eskew of Chandler John Childs of Chandler, Arthur Thurman of Epworth M. E. and Frances Denbo of Old North M. E.  Dr. Benson will be the banquet speaker Saturday evening. R. Stanley Hendricks, Huntinhburg, is dean of men for the convention, and Miss Cyrintha Terry of Trinity M. E. church is dean of women. The Rev. Lee Jarrette, Rockport, is league councilor.  The Huntingburg High School Band is sponsoring James Britton and Pupils in a Dance Recital at the Huntingburg High School Gymnasium, Friday, June 17, at 8:15. Tickets are moderately priced, being 25 and 15. Dale children in the Recital are Miss Gloria Flo Brown and Miss Ann Kibler. These two young ladies are in a floradora number. The Recital is really worth seeing as it is a great Production. Don't forget the date, Friday, June 17.  Boonville Press Club Speakers  Judge Curtis G. Shake of the Indiana supreme court and F. Harold Van Orman of Evansville, former lieutenant governor of Indiana, will be the principal speakers at the annual pilgrimage to the grave of Nancy Hank Lincoln sponsored by the Boonville Press Club on Sunday July 10 Judge Shake will speak about Abraham Lincoln, Van Orman will speak about Nancy Hanks Lincoln.
