THE DALE NEWS VOL I FRIDAY, APRIL 1, 1938 NO. 12 John Oliver Wood Passes Away Wed. John Oliver Wood, son of Wm. R. and Mary J. Wood, was born in Spencer county Feb. 8, 1859, and passed to his reward, March 30th, 1938, aged 79 years and 24 days. He leaves one brother, Milton Wood, several nieces and nephews, and many friends to "follow on." In early youth he found Christ at an altar of prayer, joined the church, became a diligent student of Holy Writ, and constantly sought to lead others to Jesus. In recent years he assisted the Rev. Clifford Spurlock in an evangelistic campaign in rural Kentucky. His love for the Bible and Its sacred promises was stronger and more precious at seventy than at seventeen. This book to him was God's treasure house, and there was nothing he loved better than to have friends read with him from the sacred page. it wee his bread of life, the anchor of his hope, his pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night, and the light that lighted his pathway home to his Father. As long as strength permitted, it was his custom to worship in the sanctuary. Among the last mid-week services he attended, he read a poem of his faith. Following is the poem "My bark is wafted to the strand, By breath divine, And on the helm there rests a hand Other than mine. One who was known in storms to sail, I have on board, Above the roaring of the gale I hear my Lord." Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church here with the Rev. W. A. Shelton in charge. Buial will be in the Dale cemetery.
