Hello, Dave:
My head hangs in shame when I think of how long it has been since you left the States and that you have not heard from us here in Speed. We have often talked about you and wondered where you were. I understand your Division is in Germany and I am wondering if you arrived there in time to get into any of the action. I guess one of the biggest jobs over there now is to care for the thousands of prisoners. We are all glad, of course, that the war is over in Europe, but none of us can feel really happy until it is finished in the Pacific as well.
Martha Dean is still in school at Jefferson City, Tenn. She will not be home until late June and then will have only about six weeks' vacation before going back. Mrs. Dorsey is still working in Louisville which, of course, keeps her very busy with keeping house the time she is at home.
Your friends here at Speed are all much as you remember them. Often in talking with folks about the many soldiers who have been here since July, 1942, we mention you and the fun you were, and we hope we will see you again.
Enclosed is a copy of my last letter toour men and women in service; you may find something interesting in it. Also enclosed is a copy of a recent edition of teh "Blue-Grass Blade" which I am sure you will find interesting!
You should see the street in front of the Community House with all the trees and shrubbery gone. It really looks bad. We are expecting the Contractors within a few days to put in a new sidewalks. Then in the fall we hope to do some planting of trees and shrubbery.
I hope you can find time for a letter soon, and can tell us a little about where you are what you are doing.
