DEAR MRS. BURKE:
THE NEWS OF THE DEATH OF YOUR SON JEFFREY IN ACTION IN FRANCE REACHED US THROUGH MRS. CARL DREYER. WE WERE VERY SORRY TO HEAR IT, OF COURSE, FOR WE FEEL THAT WE HAVE A PERSONAL INTEREST IN EACH OF THE MORE THAN 500 BOYS WHO HAVE BEEN GUESTS HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY SINCE WE BEGAN OUR PARTIES FOR SERVICE MEN IN JULY, 1942.
AT EACH OF OUR PARTIES WE TAKE PICTURES OF THE BOYS, THEN THESE ARE MOUNTED IN A SCRAPBOOK WITH THEIR NAMES, THEIR SUNDAY HOSTS, THE PARTY SPONSORS AND THE GIRLS WHO SERVE AS HOSTESSES. ENCLOSED YOU WILL FIND COPIES OF THE PICTURES WE HAVE OF YOUR SON.
THE SOLDIER WITH JEFFREY IS PVT. F. PIERETTI, WHO WAS A MEMBER OF THE SAME COMPANY. HE LIVED AT R-100 COLUMBUS AVENUE, PAWTUCKET, R. I. YOU MAY HAVE HEARD YOUR SON MENTION HIM. BOTH OF THE BOYS WERE GUESTS OF MR. AND MRS. DREYER ON SUNDAY.
I ASSURE YOU THAT YOU HAVE OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY IN THE LOSS OF YOUR SON.
